Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Thank you to Calliope The Book Goddess for tagging me to do the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag! It’s always fun to look back on your reading progress, and this tag is a great excuse to do that!

I will warn from the beginning that I do not remember every book that I have read so far this year. I tried something different this year, by writing down the books I have read and putting them in a jar, so that by the end of the year I can pull them out and find out how many books I have read, without the constant pressure of it throughout the year. This means I do not have a written down list of all of the books I have read so far in 2015, so I am going purely on memory!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2015…

acotar

A Court of Thorns and Roses! I had been excited for this book since it was first put onto goodreads (it didn’t even have a proper title or synopsis back then!). It definitely lived up to all of my excitement!

Best sequel you’ve read in 2015…

23276983

The Winner’s Crime (the sequel to The Winner’s Curse) absolutely blew me away. I was an emotional wreck after finishing this book.

New release that you haven’t read yet but want to…

25068467

I am so excited to read Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I have heard some mixed things recently, but it sounds like the kind of story I am going to love! I plan on reading it soon, when I have finished the books I currently have on the go.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year…

23437156

It is literally only a few days until Six of Crows is released! Winter (the final book in the Lunar Chronicles) is up there with my most anticipated releases too.

Biggest Disappointment…

3876

I am currently still only about half way through this book (I started it ages ago), but I am not overly impressed. I plan to finish it before the end of this month, but I will explain more in my September wrap-up why this book has been such a disappointment.

Biggest Surprise…

37435

I wouldn’t necessarily say that it was a surprise that I liked this book, but I did enjoy it a lot more than I had expected. I only finished this book yesterday, and I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read it!

Favourite New Author…

adsom

Victoria Schwab or V.E Schwab has become one of my top favourite authors this year. It started with A Darker Shade of Magic (which I read back in April), and every book I have read since I have fallen in love with. I only have The Near Witch to go, and then I am up to date with all of her published books.

New fictional crush…

Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses. Lucien has grown on me a lot since I’ve finished the book, but Rhysand wins out for sure!

Newest favourite character…

the archived

Wesley Ayers from The Archived. There is nothing not to love about that boy!

Book that made you cry…

23276983

As I just mentioned, this book made me an emotional wreck. Some of these emotions caused me to cry.

Book that made you happy…

latbndI didn’t love Lola and the Boy Next Door, but it made me feel so happy. Stephanie Perkins is amazing at writing stories that just make me beam with happiness.

Favourite book-to-movie adaptation you’ve seen this year…

I can’t even remember all the ones I have seen so far this year. Paper Towns was good. In fact, I personally thought it was better than the book. However, it didn’t blow me away. The Scorch Trials was good, but not amazing. I think if you ask me this question at the end of the year there will be an obvious answer… hopefully!

Favourite book review you’ve written…

My A Court of Thorns and Roses review was the first book review that I posted on my blog (back in June), so that will always be a special review.

Most beautiful book you have bought/received…

25068467

The physical copy is even more beautiful! The colours, the illustration, the font… *sigh*

What books you need to read before the end of the year…

18047651

There is only one book that I really want to make sure I have read before the year is up. I have had The Miniaturist for a while now, and started and finished it a couple of times. I think if I leave it much longer, I will never pick it up again. So I want to finally read it, because it sounds like something that I will very much enjoy, if I just push myself to get past the first chapter!

  1. Some excellent choices there. I too enjoyed Court of Thrones and Roses and am very excited for Six of Crows. I think my favourite new author this year was Rachel Caine for Ink and Bone. I really loved that book; an unexpected favourite.

I use GoodReads a lot to monitor my reading progress – that works well for me.

    1. Six of Crows cannot come any sooner! I haven’t read Ink and Bone, though I have heard great things about it. I read Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine earlier in the year, but I really didn’t like it, so I just haven’t picked any of her other books up yet. I may well have to give her another chance now! I have only recently started using GoodReads, but I think I will start using that from January to keep track of my reading too! I just felt like doing something a bit different this year, and surprise myself with the number of books I have read at the end of the year.

  2. Wow so many good books! I can’t wait to read Six of Crows, it’s my most anticipated book of the whole year! Uprooted has one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen. (Really need to buy it soon.) Victoria Schwab is one of my favourite authors – I have loved everything that I have read by her.
Thank you for tagging me! 🙂
